形態特徵

• Fronds 50-85 cm long; stipes 20-60 cm long, swollen pulvinus at base and another about 1/3-1/4 way from base; stipe scales lanceolate, brown, margins irregular; pinnae few (4-6), usually subopposite, elliptical, 15-28 cm long (usually 22-25 cm), 3-5 cm wide (usually 4 cm), caudate; without recurrent veins; margins serrulate-crenulate; very narrow scales borne on the pulvini at base of pinnae.
• ori medial, about 1 cm long; paraphyses present.
• Hayata differentiated <i>A. somai</i> from <i>A. henryi</i> by very smalll characters, such as: the petiole of pinnae being shorter, the caudate apex being longer, and the sori being nearer the costa than margin (Hayata, Icon. P1. Form. 5: 256. 1915). <i>Archangiopteris somai</i> is only known from Taiwan, <i>A. henryi</i> is only known from Yunnan (S. W. China), Tagawa considers these taxa as two geographical varieties of the one species <i>A. henryi</i> (Tagawa in Journ. Jap. Bot. 27: 319. 1952). Variety <i>somai</i> has pinnae with caudate tips and this character is the easiest one to use in distinguishing it from var. <i>henyri</i> which has acuminate apices.
